24 North Bailey Club

Opening Times: Sunday -Thursday 7 - 11pm, Friday and Saturday 7 - 12.00am.

The Union offers unparalleled nightlife centred around our own bar. As the only student society to have its own members’ bar, snooker room, reading room, en-suite guest room and the best entertainment in the University, we offer much more than just great speakers and lively debates. BBC Online lists 24 as one of the top ten nights out in Durham - so why not come down for a few drinks?! No bar crawl is complete without a stop at 24.

The North Bailey Club (between St John's and St Chad's) is exclusively for Union members and boasts an impressive range of facilities. It is situated on the peninsula in the centre of Durham city, within easy reach of all the colleges. It is one of the Union Society’s most valued assets and is the venue for many of the Society's social events.

The Bar

The bar is known for its great atmosphere, its good selection of beers, its low prices and as a great place to meet. It provides a lively alternative to college bars and the city's pubs. No bar crawl can possibly be complete without visiting. It has a large beer garden which is the perfect place to sit and relax on a summer's evening after the exams.

The Reading Room

Located next to the bar, this is primarily used to entertain the high-profile guests who are invited to speak at the Society. As a smart and stylish venue the Reading Room is perfect for private parties and is available to members to hire at a low rate. E-mail union.society@durham.ac.uk for more details, or call into the Society office. For more on hiring Union facilities, click here.

The Snooker Room

The newly-renovated Snooker Room has one of the few full-size snooker tables in Durham and it has been kept in fine condition. It is free for members to use anytime and is regularly used for the Society's snooker tournaments. To use the Snooker Room come to the Union Society Office on Palace Green with your DUS Card and a £20 deposit. Once you have done this you can sign out the Snooker Room key any evening from behind the bar.

Accommodation

The house side of the Club boasts 7 large, fully-furnished bedrooms, rented out to members at between £62 and £65 per week on an 9 month contract. Residence is based on contribution to the Union and the mutual compatibility of the housemates. Keep an eye out in late Michaelmas for advertisements about how to apply to live in the house.

The Guest Room

24 also has a guest room which can be booked by any member. The newly-renovated President's Room has one double bed, one single bed, coffee and tea facilities and an en-suite bath/shower room. £25 for one person per night, £40 for two people and £45 for three.
