Buildings and Facilities

The Union operates two facilities: A debating chamber and office on Palace Green, and a Bar/Club and Residential House on the Bailey.

The Debating Chamber

The Debating Chamber is situated between the Castle and Cathedral on Palace Green in the midst of Durham's World Heritage Site. It plays host to the Union's debates, addresses and forums and has welcomed in the past figures as diverse as Cherie Blair, Margaret Thatcher and Michael Palin.

It remains a magnificent setting that creates a unique and special atmosphere in which to listen and question some of Britain's leading public figures.

24 North Bailey

24 North Bailey Club (24 NBC) is the Union's Bar. It is a favourite amongst Durham students and a regular fixture on any Bailey bar crawl. It also has a lovely beer garden and extensive range of cocktails and imported beers. Open every evening, 24 NBC is bound to become one your favourite places to drink in Durham.

24 NBC is more than just a bar. Members have unlimited use of a full size snooker table, can apply for some of the best student accommodation in Durham above the bar, can put up friends and parents cheaply in the en-suite guest room and can book the Reading Room for functions free of charge.
