Recent DUS Competition Results

 

Academic Year 2010-2011:  


  • Edinburgh Cup 2011: Both Durham A - Benjamin Dory and Thomas Ball, and Durham B - Pete Doughton and Simon Tunnicliffe, reached the semi-final
  • EUDC: Durham B - Benjamin Dory and Thomas Ball, reached the final of the European Championship; the best Durham performance at this competition for five years. For more details see Palatinate article http://www.palatinate.org.uk/?p=14911
  • WUDC 2011: Congratulations to Durham A - Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) and Pamela Cohn (Castle) for breaking 9th and the World Championships, though they unfortunately went out in the Octofinals. Congratulations also to Jonathan Worgan (Castle) - Durham's judge, who broke as a judge and judged a main-break semi-final. Commiserations to Durham B - Peter Doughton (Trevelyan) and Fletch Williams (Mary's) for narrowly missing out despite a strong performance throughout the competition. A strong performance from all with Guy ranking 14th individual speaker in the world, Pam ranking 23rd, Fletch ranking 41st and Pete ranking 69th. 
  • Cork IV - Commiserations to Durham A - Peter Doughton (Trevelyan) and Fletch Williams (Mary's) who, despite a strong performance narrowly missed the break. 

 

  • ESU Mace 2010 - Congratulations to Durham A - Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) and Pamela Cohn (Castle) for reaching the semi-finals of the national leg of the John Smith Memorial Mace, and for taking 10th and 8th speaker positions respectively. 

 

  • More good news from Cambridge IV, with Durham A - Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) and Pamela Cohn (Castle) continuing their success breaking 8th and reaching the final. Congratulations also to Durham B - Peter Doughton (Trevelyan) and Fletch Williams (Mary's) for breaking 7th, though they unfortunately went out in the quarter-finals. Congratulations also to Pamela Cohn who took 9th speaker. 

 

  • A fantastic performance this weekend with Durham A - Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) and Pamela Cohn (Castle) reaching the finals of the Oxford IV, widely recognised as one of the most competitive competitions in the world. Pam also took 5th speaker with Guy taking 11th rounding off a strong performance, and with Durham B (Peter Doughton and Fletch Williams) and Durham C (George Trigatzis and Ben Lambert) all reaching promising team positions as well.

 

  • More good news from Ireland this time. Durham MBK - Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) and Ettie Bailey-King (Hild/Bede) made the semi-finals of the UCD Vice-Presidents' cup and took 6th and 7th speaker positions respectively. Congratulations also to Peter Doughton (Trevelyan) and Fletch Williams (Mary's) for narrowly missing out on the break and both taking positions in the top 20. 

 

  •  Congratulations to Pamela Cohn (Castle) for taking 6th speaker at the Edinburgh IV 2010, and to the rest of the Durham squad for a strong performance!

 

  • Congratulations to Edward Hauschild (John's) and Sarah Spriggs (Grey) for reaching the final of the Nottingham Novice cup and making the top 10 speakers. Congratulations also to the rest of the Durham contingent for a strong showing.

 

  •  Congratulations to Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) and Pamela Cohn (Castle) for breaking top at the SOAS IV 2010 and reaching the semi-finals. Pamela Cohn also took 9th speaker at her first inter-varsity in the UK. Jon Worgan (Castle) also broke as a judge.

 

Academic Year 2009- 2010

·         Ettie Bailey-King (Hild Bede) and Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) broke to the semi-final of the Newcastle Open 2010. Louise Best (Chad’s), Jon Worgan (Castle) and Fletch Williams (Marys) also broke as judges to the semi-final with Jon and Louise then going on to break to judging the final. Good results for all involved.

 

·         Congratulations to Ettie Bailey-King (Hild Bede) and Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) for breaking second at Manchester IV and to Michael Plygawko (Collingwood) for breaking as a judge to the ESL final and Louise Best (Chad’s) for breaking as a judge in the main break.

 

·         Congratulations to Tom Ball (Castle) and Jon Worgan (Castle) for winning the Leeds IV 2010.  Conratulations to Jon Worgan for winning Best Speaker in the final.  Congratulations also to Michael Plygawko (Collingwod) and to Katherine Thane (Mary\'s) for breaking to the Grand Final as judges, and to Chessie Kettle (Grey) for breaking to the semi-finals as a judge.

 

·         Congratulations to Tom Ball and Jon Worgan (both of Castle) for reaching the final of the Dundee IV

 

·         Congratulations to Tom Ball (Castle) and Andrew Lawson (Mary\'s) for winning the Newcastle IV on Saturday 30th January 2010.
Four Durham teams broke to the final: Jon Worgan (Castle) and Peter Doughton (Trevs), Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) and George Trigatzis (Van Mildert), Ettie Bailey-King (Hild Bede) and Roger Fox (Mary\'s) and of course Tom Ball (Castle) and Andrew Lawson (Mary\'s).

Two Durham judges also broke to the final - Calum Jones (Cuths) and Louise Best (Chad\'s).

 

·         Congratulations to Tom Ball and Jon Worgan (both of University College) for winning the Sheffield IV on Saturday 5th December. Also to Calum Jones (Cuths) for breaking as a judge.

 

·         Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) and Ettie Bailey-King (Hild Bede) got to the Novice Final at the Cork IV (4th-6th December). 

 

·         Congratulations to our Novices who debated amazingly at Bogwall on Saturday 21st November . Pete Doughton (Trevs) & Roger Fox (Mary’s) finished top of tab as a team, but just missed out in the final. They finished 1st and 4th as individuals respectively.

 

·         Well done also to our teams at the Cambridge IV with Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) & Fletch Williams (Mary’s) continuing our ‘just missing out on break’ tradition this term in an unlucky but brilliant result.

 

·         At the Lancaster IV three freshers finished in the top ten on speaker marks, and our two teams were robbed from breaking. Guy Miscampbell (Cuths) topped Novice speaker tab. Peter Doughton & Roger Fox topped Novice Team tab.

 

·         Sam Richards (Cuths) and James Lake (St John\'s) won the Nottingham Novice Cup 24th October 2009.

 

·         At the Edinburgh IV Jon Worgan (Castle) finished 2nd on tab and narrowly missed breaking.
