Standing Committee

The Union is run by student officers, who are unpaid and try to squeeze in degrees at the same time!

Anna Birley President

president@dus.org.uk

The President is in charge of delivering a successful term. She chairs debates, meetings, and coordinates the action of the Union Officers. The President is ultimately responsible for the Durham Union Society, both to its trustees and critically to you, its members.

Rishi Mansigani - Secretary:

The Secretary is the administrative hub of the Union. The Secretary is responsible for communicating the members’ views to the other officers, recording the minutes of the debates and meetings, changes in the Constitution and has ultimate responsibility for the college secretaries.

Rishi is a PPE student from Cuths. Apart from Union work he also enjoys playing football.

Sam Richards - Treasurer

The Treasurer is in charge of the money! The Treasurer liaises with the responsible officers and sets budgets. They are the check and balance on spending, and keep the accounts up to date before presenting them to the trustees.

Allegedly competent at both dating and debating, Sam studies PPE at Cuths.

 Ed Mason Custodian.

The Custodian is responsible for 24 North Bailey Club. Working with the Assistant Treasurer and Bar Manager and staff, they ensure the smooth running of 24, and communicate all resolutions from the officers to Gordon, the Bar Manager.

A top class debator and enthusiastic officer, Ed is in his final year after having spent a year abroad in France and Quebec fine tuning his French.

Chessie KettleSocial Secretary:

The Social Secretary is responsible for delivering all of the Union’s fantastic social events that are held each term. They are supported in their role by the social committee.

A philosophy student at Grey, Chessie can often be found propping up the bar at 24 NBC.

Michael Plygawko Sponsorship Secretary

The Sponsorship Secretary works closely with all of the other officers to ensure that all areas of the Union receive sponsorship. They are responsible for making and maintaining links between the Union and external parties.

Guy Miscampbell- Director of Debating

debating@dus.org.uk

The Director of Debating is responsible for student debating, both inside and outside of Durham. Day to day tasks include running Monday Night Workshops and Advanced Debating Practice, selecting teams to represent Durham at Inter-Varsity competitions, and organising competitions such as Durham Schools, the Open and our own IV.

Rory White-Andrews - President Elect

The President Elect is responsible for organising next term's debates. This is a very important role requiring a lot of preparation during the preceeding one and a half terms. The President elect will often be found in the Union Office helping organise their speakers, socials and events during their term. - Good Luck!
